Indian author A. K. Khainal is preparing to take readers in an unexpected new direction. His novel This Is For You, Dad., which had originally been planned for release on 6 August 2026, did not launch on its scheduled date. However, the delay has opened the door to another project—one that moves away from political intrigue and enters a much darker world.
Instead of This Is For You, Dad., Khainal is now preparing to bring out Dead Face, a new psychological horror novel that is expected to arrive very soon.
From Political Thriller to Psychological Horror
This Is For You, Dad. was conceived as a political thriller centred on Kiara Verma, a young woman attempting to uncover the truth surrounding the death of her father, Kailash. The novel was expected to introduce readers to Khainal through a story built around politics, mystery, family and hidden truths.
Its planned 6 August 2026 release, however, passed without the book being published.
For readers waiting for Khainal’s fiction, that does not mean the author has stepped away from storytelling. Instead, attention has shifted toward an entirely different novel.
That novel is Dead Face.
Where This Is For You, Dad. explores conspiracy and investigation, Dead Face enters the territory of psychological and supernatural horror, with fear, isolation, guilt and uncertainty at the centre of the experience.
Welcome to Greymoor
Dead Face is set in the fictional town of Greymoor and follows Max, a sixteen-year-old pianist whose life begins to unravel after a mysterious black diary enters his world.
What initially appears to be a strange object gradually becomes connected to something far more disturbing.
The novel builds its horror around a simple but dangerous idea: a wish can be granted—but granting it may come with a price that cannot be undone.
Much of the story takes place across a single terrifying night, creating a contained and increasingly claustrophobic atmosphere as Max and the people around him struggle to understand what is happening inside the house.
At the centre of everything is the mysterious presence known as Dead Face.
Rather than relying only on conventional scares, the novel is designed around psychological pressure—fear between friends, uncertainty over whom to trust, guilt over past choices and the disturbing possibility that some consequences cannot simply be reversed.
A Different Introduction to A. K. Khainal
The change in release plans means that Dead Face could become many readers’ first introduction to A. K. Khainal’s fiction.
It is a noticeably different starting point from This Is For You, Dad.. One is rooted in political conspiracy and investigation; the other is built around a supernatural nightmare unfolding hour by hour.
Yet both projects share an interest in mystery, secrets and characters being forced to confront truths they would rather avoid.
For Khainal, Dead Face also represents a major step in his journey as an author. The manuscript has already moved beyond its initial drafting stage and into revision and preparation for publication.

Has Not Been Forgotten
The missed 6 August release should not necessarily be seen as the end of This Is For You, Dad.
The novel remains an important project in Khainal’s developing catalogue, but its publication has been postponed rather than serving as his immediate release.
For now, the spotlight belongs to Dead Face.
And considering how dramatically different the two novels are, the change could allow readers to see another side of Khainal’s writing before eventually entering the political world of This Is For You, Dad.
