A. K. Khainal: A 22-Year-Old Indian Author Building His Own Path with “This Is For You, Dad”
At just 22, A. K. Khainal (Akshit Khainal) is not only writing a political thriller but also documenting his journey of selling it independently.
A. K. Khainal born in 26 September 2003, Based in New Delhi, Khainal describes himself as an indie author who is building his path from writing to selling. His debut book, This Is For You, Dad, is set to release on 6 August 2026 and falls under the political thriller genre, with strong elements of emotion and mystery.
From Rejection to Reinvention
Interestingly, Khainal did not originally plan to write a book.
He started by writing stories for films. However, after facing rejection, he decided to completely rework his idea and turn it into a novel. What began as a single story has now expanded into a much larger vision, with more than 12 interconnected story ideas planned for the future.
A Story Rooted in Emotion
While This Is For You, Dad is not directly based on his personal life, it carries a strong emotional foundation.
Khainal lost his father at the age of 16, an event that significantly shaped his perspective. He describes his father as a kind and gentle person who helped others selflessly. These emotions, according to him, are deeply embedded in the story.
He believes that anyone who has experienced loss will be able to connect with the emotional core of the book.
The Journey of Writing
Khainal began writing the book at the age of 20, and the process took him two years to complete.
One of the biggest challenges he faced was dealing with the emotional intensity of the story. There were moments when self-doubt crept in, and he questioned his abilities. Despite this, he continued working on the book, rewriting and editing it multiple times—approximately seven to eight drafts.
Choosing an Unconventional Path
In an industry where new writers often follow traditional publishing routes, Khainal has chosen a different approach.
He plans to sell his book independently, focusing on direct interaction with readers rather than relying solely on conventional distribution channels. According to him, this journey is not just about selling a book, but about building a genuine connection with readers.
To support this, he is also documenting his book-selling journey through short videos and vlogs, giving audiences a real-time look into the process.
A Cinematic Storytelling Style
One of the defining aspects of Khainal’s writing is his cinematic approach.
Influenced heavily by films, he aims to create scenes that readers can visualize clearly. His storytelling blends action with emotional depth, allowing readers to experience the narrative as if they are watching it unfold.
At the center of the story is Kiara Verma, a character whose journey revolves around loss, truth, and the discovery of a deeper reality behind her father’s death.
